Winter Patrol
This winter our Wednesday Night Men’s Group has been ministering to the homeless people of St. Louis. Once a week they load a car or van with supplies and drive to St. Louis. They check in at the New Life Evangelistic Center, which organizes the patrols all week. They follow a route with typically nine or ten stops at places where homeless people often stay. They check on their well-being, visit with them and try to give them whatever they need.
Thank you to everyone who has provided food and supplies for these trips. The sack dinners are one of the best meals they get each week, and they have made the ministry especially helpful. It just shows how determined this congregation is to carry out the good work that Jesus talked about.
If you would like to help, here is a list of needed items for the next few weeks:
- Batteries, especially AA, C and D. They power flashlights and radios and are always in demand.
- Flashlights and small radios
- Snack foods, such as small bags of chips, peanuts, cheese and crackers, granola bars, etc. These help tide them over after the meals are gone.
- Canned meat dishes with pop-top cans. Folks on the route don't have can openers, but they like these meat and pasta meals.
- Bottled water
- Firewood
- Candles
There are collection bins in the Helping Hallway at church, and we have also created an Amazon Wish List. You are welcome to purchase anything on the list and have it shipped directly to the church.
We have had enough people for our Tuesday patrols, but we can always work in more if somebody would like to come along and learn the route. Also, the New Life Center has not been able to find groups to do weekend nights, so we are going to go out on some Sunday nights this winter to meet that need. The Sunday schedule is wide open, so anyone who would like to get involved is invited to contact the church at 656.1853.
