Men's Breakfast
8:00 am, monthly
church
Leader - Reese Plickebaum

Senior
Men’s Group meets the last Wednesday of each month
and has breakfast. Anyone is welcome to come and join us. Twice
a year we try to have an
afternoon lunch and invite our wives or girlfriends.
Some
of the activities in which the group participates are:
Providing free breakfast for the church once a year
Assisting with the church cookouts
With Darol Holsman’s guidance, making minor repairs and cleaning up
in the kitchen and other areas of the church.
Over
the years, we have given money to youth groups, those going on
mission trips and also the Nomads. At Christmas we buy several
items from the wish list on the Christmas tree. We also send
out cards to those who are ill and in the hospital.
There
are no dues. The money we use is the money we make from our monthly
breakfast offerings. That’s right, there is no charge for
our meals, and it is strictly a free will offering. Pay what
you like, if you can. We do have a few people from other churches
that attend. If there would be an interest in having a Saturday
morning men’s breakfast, let the office know and we will
see what we can arrange.

Calling all moms of infants, toddlers or preschoolers! Are you looking
for opportunities to help your child develop social skills,
gain independence and build self-confidence? Are you seeking
fun and free activities to do with your children? Are you
interested in connecting with other parents of young children
and forming friendships of your own in a nurturing, Christian
environment? Then this is for you!
St.
John’s Playgroup is open to all, regardless of church
affiliation! We offer a casual playgroup that meets each Wednesday.
However, many of us arrive late and/or leave early. We
generally meet in the Big Room or on the playground
at St. John’s. Sometimes we schedule fieldtrips, and during
the summer we meet at area parks as the weather allows. Playgroup
members take turns bringing snacks for the group, and everyone
brings their own drinks.

WOW
9:30

Leader - Pat Umbaugh

The
WOW ( Walk on Water) Small Group meets every Wednesday from 9:30 —11
am in Little Mary Lounge. We are a nurturing group concerned about
all
things that God has entrusted to us.
Currently,
WOW is studying Caring for God’s Earth, edited
by J. Richard Peck. This book is organized into the seven units
of The Natural World section of the Social Principles from “The
Book of Resolutions of The United Methodist Church, 1996.” Our
group discusses how these resolutions are observed or not observed
and utilized or not utilized in our world today. Then we discuss
if there is something that we as a group or the church as a whole
can do to take better care of God’s earth.
The
next book our group will study is Saving God’s Green
Earth by Tri Robinson with Jason Chatraw. This book is about rediscovering
the church’s responsibility with regard to environmental
stewardship.
The group has several projects
in the works to help with the environment. Some of them will involve
St. John’s, including an EcoMoment
in “The Reminder.” WOW not only studies the environment,
but we are also concerned about our fellow man. We will be making
dinner and serving the residents at the Salvation Army in Alton
on Thanksgiving, and we will be asking other groups to help, too.
If you are
interested in joining us on Wednesday mornings, just come at 9:30 am,
or give Pat Umbaugh a call.

"And
let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the
work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands." Psalm
90:17
We gather on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from
6-8pm, in Room 105 (Little Mary). Some of us bring sewing machines
and some of us just bring
our needle, thread and thimbles. Together, we join as a group to create quilts
for our St John’s mission teams to take to those in need of warmth, be
it physical or emotional. This group is open to anyone that would like to share
their gift of sewing (yes, men too). Beginners are very welcome, we will teach
you as God has given us the ability to share His beauty through the work of our
hands.
Please join us!
