You
can Help Others!

Give the Gift of Hope
A single cow can produce 4 gallons of protein-rich milk a day for an impoverished family in a developing country. What’s not used by the family can be sold to raise the family income, perhaps to pay school fees for the children. One chicken can lay three or four protein-rich eggs a week – more than 200 eggs a year! |

For
decades, Heifer International has provided animals – cows, goats,
llamas, pigs, rabbits, water buffalo, chickens, bees,
etc., to poor communities. The animals improve diets,
provide fertilizer and work for farmers, and raise
incomes. The recipients pledge to “pass on the
gift” by giving some of their animals’ offspring
to other members of the community.
You can be a part of this life-changing work through
St. John’s annual gift. On Sun, Feb. 21, the
Mission Team will distribute “Ark” banks,
which we hope you will fill and return on Sun, Mar.
21. Thank you for caring! |

UMW Blanket
Month |
 |
United
Methodist Women are again teaming up with Church
World Services (CWS) to provide blankets and other
items to people in need. We are asking the congregation
to help us meet our goal of 300 blankets. By giving
$5 you will be providing a blanket to someone in
the world that needs our help.
As of the beginning of February CWS is working with
Action by Churches Together International (ACT) and
with local partners in Haiti and the Dominican Republic to provide aid such as
CWS kits and blankets, tents |
|
| and
food packages, medical supplies, construction of temporary
water systems, and water purification materials. Thus
far, CWS has provided more than $700,000 worth of aid
and material resources to assist Haitian families affected
by the quake. Long-term CWS work will focus on food security
in rural areas. |

Lighten Your
Load |
 |
This
month “Lighten Your Load” will begin
collecting used shoes to donate to shoeman.org. These
shoes are sold for 35 cents/lb and the money is used
to drill wells for clean water in Kenya. Eventually
the used shoes end up in South America where they
are purchased for pennies by the locals. By donating
your unwanted shoes, you will be helping in many
ways. Just clean out those old shoes! They take all
kinds except stilettos, steel toed boots and other
crazy things not appropriate for everyday use. Drop
them off in the Helping Hallway located in the Sunday
School wing. We will deliver them at the end of February.
Have fun, and enjoy your new-found closet space. ~
